The Lira Corporate Gala, a monthly gala uniting over 20 companies for social interaction and sporting activities, has witnessed a significant surge in teacher participation during its second outing of the third season notably teachers of Mantle Primary School and Lira Town College.
Held on the first Sunday of every month, the gala has become an ideal of friendship and sportsmanship, with teachers now actively engaging in the festivities. Their involvement is not just about fun serving as a source of inspiration for school going children to appreciate and value sports during their school years.
The recent outing (second outing) of the third edition 2024 saw a notable increase in attendance and excitement, with new companies joining in the competitions. Outdoor favourites like football and volleyball, along with indoor classics such as chase, Mweso, and Ludo, dominate the sporting scene, providing a platform for companies to showcase their products.
Teachers, recognizing the importance of their participation, have pledged to remain integral to the gala’s success. Head Teacher of Mantle Primary School, Obote Sam highlighted how they utilize the event to appoint departmental heads based on skills as they used to relay on academic papers, emphasizing the importance of sports beyond academics.
Deogracious Opio, a teacher at Lira Town College, stressed the significance of teachers engaging in corporate events, citing the benefits of networking beyond the education sector. He noted how participation not only offers them a chance to exercise and unwind but also broadens their professional connections.
Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL), the main sponsor of this year’s gala, has echoed the sentiment of supporting education for young children. Juma Ali, UBL’s Regional Consumer Manager, urged corporates to consider the future of children by promoting responsible drinking and advocating against drinking and driving.
