Inspired by sports journalists like Carroll Radull of Kenya and Juliet Buwoah of Ghana, she found her calling in providing comprehensive coverage from grassroots to premier leagues, incorporating with the popular English Premier League.
Despite her passion, Akao faced discouragement, especially due to gender stereotypes and financial constraints. “Some people doubted my ability because of my gender, while others questioned my commitment due to being constantly on my phone,” she recalls. Expensive data in Uganda posed another challenge, compounded by requests for unpaid endorsements and promises of payment left unfulfilled.
