Lango Sub-region has long been known for its love of “Malakwang,” a traditional leafy vegetable cherished for its unique bitter taste and enjoyed fresh or mixed with groundnut paste.
Elders often savor Malakwang raw for its distinct bitterness, while the younger generation prefers it with a “sugar coating” of groundnut paste, making the dish rich and comforting.
Drawing a clever metaphor from this, popular artist TeeBoy has infused the cultural love for Malakwang into the theme of his latest song, “Aol Ki Mar,” which translates to “I’m Fed Up with Love.”
In his song, TeeBoy reflects on the “bitter” side of love, comparing the sweetness of young love to the coating of groundnut paste on Malakwang, which gradually fades to reveal the raw, often harsh, reality underneath.
Through heartfelt lyrics, he shares how the thrill of constant phone calls and attention fades over time, leaving one with a sense of regret over the time and resources invested. TeeBoy laments how, despite giving his all in relationships, the love he receives falls short, while those he has little interest in seem to pursue him.
Produced by Brozy Beats with noticeable sound enhancements at Qikk Studio, “Aol Ki Mar” features TeeBoy’s raw vocals and vibrant melodies, giving fans a fresh perspective on the love story trope in Lango music.
And Fans who have been following DP Emason’s video work will notice that with help of Director Wyler’s creativity in crafting a high-definition experience, using only three characters to deliver a distinct and compelling visual on a modest budget.
However, the video might have resonated more deeply had it included a few intense scenes to portray the raw, bittersweet aspects of love and conflict.
