Prof Kiddu Makubuya, Ex-Minister and Attorney General, Passes On

The nation is in mourning following the passing of Prof Kiddu Makubuya, a trailblazing lawyer, politician, and former Attorney General, at the age of 74.

His daughter, Rebecca Nabagala, confirmed his demise, although details surrounding his passing are still limited.

Prof Makubuya’s illustrious career spanned over two decades, with notable achievements in both politics and law. He served as a Member of Parliament, held various ministerial positions, and was a distinguished lawyer, earning degrees from Makerere University and Yale Law School.

His political journey began in 1996 as a Member of Parliament for Katikamu South Constituency, followed by roles as State Minister for Luwero Triangle, State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Education and Sports, Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister, and Attorney General from 2005 to 2011.

He also served as Minister of General Duties in the Prime Minister’s office before resigning in February 2012.Prof Makubuya’s legacy extends beyond his government roles.

He was a respected lawyer, earning a First Class Honors Bachelor of Laws degree from Makerere University, a Master of Laws degree, and a Doctor of Juridical Science from Yale Law School.

The news of his passing comes after earlier false reports of his demise on Martyrs’ Day, which were later clarified as he was critically ill and hospitalized at Nakasero Hospital.
