The Deputy Vice Chancellor of Lira University, Assoc. Prof. Okaka Opio Dokotum, is beaming with joy as he takes the reins of a luxurious brand new Toyota Fortuner office vehicle.
The SUV, valued at a staggering shs270 Million, was handed over to him by the esteemed Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jasper Ogwal Okeng, in a brief ceremony held at the university’s Main Campus.
During the handover event, Prof. Ogwal Okeng expressed his delight in presenting the 7-seater world-performance car to the Deputy Vice Chancellor.
He noted that the Toyota Fortuner is an exhilarating vehicle available with both Automatic and Manual transmission options. Prof. Ogwal Okeng further highlighted the university’s determination to excel amidst challenges, stating that Lira University is poised to reach greater heights.
Acknowledging the importance of official and planned travel for staff members in the execution of university activities, Prof. Ogwal Okeng affirmed the significance of providing reliable and efficient transportation resources. He believes that the use of vehicles plays a crucial role in enhancing productivity and ensuring the successful implementation of planned initiatives.
The Toyota Fortuner, now serving as the Deputy Vice Chancellor’s official vehicle, boasts impressive features that contribute to its appeal. As a 7-seater 4-cylinder car, it offers Power Steering, Power Windows, an Anti-Lock Braking System, Air Conditioner, Driver Airbag, Passenger Airbag, Fog Lights, Alloy Wheels, and Multi-Function Steering Wheels. Brieftly, Lira University is one of the Public Universities in Uganda. It started as a Constituent College of Gulu University in 2009 and attained autonomy as a fully-fledged Public University through an Act Parliament under Statutory Instrument 2015 No. 35 on the 16th July, 2015.
Lira University was established as a Public University to expand equitable higher education in the country. It was not set up just as another Public University in Uganda but Lira University to respond to the critical development needs.
It was also established on a niche of training students in Health Sciences with vision “Beacon Centre of Applied Sciences and Technology”.
Lira University is located in Ayere village, Barapwo parich, Lira Sub-county, about 10KM from Lira City Centre covering a total area of 621 acres (251.3 hectares).
