Professor Ogenga Latigo expressed frustration with both the opposition and the ruling party. His commentary criticizes key opposition figures such as Bobi Wine and Besigye stirred significant controversy, with supporters of both leaders expressing strong reactions.

The professor clarified that his intent was not to attack individuals but to challenge the belief that Uganda’s salvation lies solely in the hands of its leaders, whether they are in government or opposition.

“Uganda’s solution lies not in individual leaders but in a collective effort to address our nation’s challenges,” Professor Morris Ogenga Latigo stated. He emphasized that the focus should be on fostering unity and engaging President Museveni in a dialogue about the country’s future, rather than getting caught up in biased conflicts.

The professor acknowledged the horrifying state of Uganda’s economy and the widespread frustration among the populace due to poverty, unemployment, and perceived discrimination. He urged both the government and the opposition to move beyond confrontational politics and work together to find practical solutions.

Reflecting on his time as the leader of the opposition, Prof. Ogenga Latigo tinted on the importance of strategic, fact-based approaches to governance.

He criticized the current opposition for being too focused on grandstanding and not offering practical alternatives. He also lamented the lack of effective communication and collaboration within opposition parties.

Addressing the proposal to elect the leader of the opposition, he argued that such changes would not address the core issues. Instead, he advocated for a more substantive approach to opposition leadership and policy formulation.

As Uganda approaches the 2026 elections, Professor Morris Ogenga Latigo warned of potential disorders, drawing parallels with recent political events in Kenya. He urged the government to recognize the shifting political landscape and engage in genuine dialogue with all stakeholders.

Prof. Ogenga Latigo urged both sides of the political spectrum to prioritize the nation’s well-being over personal or party interests. He also called for a focus on unity and effective problem-solving to overcome Uganda’s current challenges.

“Ultimately, it’s not about the NRM or the opposition; it’s about Uganda and its people. We must all work together to build a better future for our country,” Prof. Ogenga Latigo concluded.
