In fulfillment of a pledge made last year, President Yoweri Museveni has presented the Lango paramount chief with a brand-new Mitsubishi Sports Car. The delivery, orchestrated by State House Comptroller Jane Baryeke, took place in Lira, marking a significant moment for the community.
The paramount chief, His Highness Yosam Odur Ebii, who appeared frail, was personally handed the keys to the vehicle. He was then chauffeured back by his son, Anthony Olobo, in what symbolized both the fulfillment of a promise and the chief’s ongoing health challenges.
Benson Dila, the kingdom’s speaker, commended the government for its support while urging for the prompt execution of other promised initiatives. Meanwhile, Government Chief Whip Denis Hamson Obua called upon clan leaders and the paramount chief to disseminate the message of social-economic transformation among the populace, particularly as President Museveni concludes his final tour in the region before retiring in December.
However, amidst the celebratory atmosphere, controversy looms over the succession of the paramount chief. While Odur Ebii’s roadmap suggests a November election for his successor, a faction of clan leaders is adamant about holding the election as early as March this year.
A paramount chief in Lango is traditionally elected from among clan leaders to serve a 20-year term, making the succession process a pivotal moment in the region’s governance and cultural landscape.
