Tragedy struck Lira City on Wednesday evening when suspected gunmen fatally shot a motorcyclist near Otim Tom Primary School in Adyel Ward. The incident occurred at approximately 2:30 PM, close to the Workers Councilor (Lira City) Gate, Sarah Awor Angweri.
The police arrived on the scene to find the victim in critical condition, having suffered from severe bleeding. He was quickly rushed to the Lira Regional Referral Hospital for urgent medical treatment but, unfortunately, passed away on reaching the facility.
Authorities have not yet identified the victim as he had no identification documents on him. However, according to reports from Lawrence Egole, the Residence Commissioner of Lira City, the authorities intend to use the victim’s phone to track down his identity by studying his call log and the individuals he spoke to prior to the incident.
Mr. Egole called on members of the public to come forward with any information relating to the tragic incident, particularly since there are no CCTV cameras in the area to provide further evidence urging anyone with information to report it to the authorities immediately to aid in their ongoing investigation.
The body has been taken to Lira Referral Hospital mortuary and investigations goes on.
