According to the crime analysis, in 2022, there was an 18% increase in the volume of crimes reported to police from 196,081 cases registered in 2021 to 231,653 cases. out of the total cases reported to police countrywide, 68,405 cases were taken to court, 26, 749 cases were not proceeded with, while 136,499 cases are still under inquiry.
In the Recent Uganda Police Annual Crime Report 2022, North Kyoga region registered the highest number of cases with 17,605 cases followed by KMP North with 16,691 cases, KMP South with 14,492 cases, Rwizi with 14,204 cases and Albertine with 13,544 cases.
Theft, common assault and domestic violence topped the list of crimes committed according to the report.
Regions leading in gender based violence according to the report was Albertine with 1,841 cases and North Kyoga followed with 1,814 cases.
With this, the Lira District woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Linda Agnes Auma is calling upon all women to conform to their husbands and stop arresting them to reduce on the cases of domestic violence.
“I encourage my women to be submissive as God has said and to be humble…” Said Hon Auma during the Women’s day celebrations for Lira District held on Friday at Itek Sub-County Lira District.
Hon. Auma in her remarks also called upon all women activists to give the rightful information so that women don’t knockdown their rights in nearby feature.
In attendance was also the Erute south member of Parliament Johnathan Odur warned mothers against abusing the trust accorded to them.
The Local Women who showed up for the celebrations called upon the Woman Legislator, the organizer of the event to advocate for the rejection of homosexuality.
