Miss Lira 2024, themed “Beauty for a Cause: Empowering the Girl Child,” crowned Atim Rebecca Nabaro, 23, promoting hope amid marginalization. The event garnered support, emphasizing girl-child development and disability empowerment.
In a captivating event on Saturday, January 6th, 2024, Lira City witnessed the crowning of Miss Lira 2024 under the theme “Beauty for a Cause: Empowering the Girl Child.” The pageant aimed to instill hope in aspiring girls who have long been marginalized due to traditional beliefs and the aftermath of the URA war in Northern Uganda during the early 2000s.
Seven outstanding contestants showcased their beauty and cultural prowess, delving into Northern Uganda’s tourism sites. Miss Atim Rebecca Nabaro, a 23-year-old Business Administration student, emerged as the Queen, replacing Miss Acheng Giovannah
Miss Atim received a UGX 1 million dummy check from one of the sponsors, Movit. Other sponsors include Aquafina, Bamboo Gallery, Wan Luo TV, Lira Hotel, Voice of Lango, Fast Media group, Uganda Drug Authority, Vintage lounge and among others.
Alaro Naume Otim, 24, claimed the first runner-up position, while Miss Awio Jenifer, 25, secured the second runner-up title and also earned the Miss Ability 2024 crown.
The event drew dignitaries, with Lira City Mayor Sam Atul pledging full support for pageantry initiatives and projects. He emphasized collaboration with Miss Ability to benefit the disabled in Lango Sub-region through Adina Foundation projects.
Lira City Residence Commissioner, Lawrence Egole, commended the organizers for providing a platform for girl-child development. He urged the community to rally behind the pageantry, recognizing its significance in the city’s progress.
Gloria Alele, the CEO of the pageantry, expressed gratitude to participants, attendees, and sponsors, assuring the public of ongoing projects under the queen’s leadership.
Attendee Mr. Odoo Kenneth praised the event as one of the best he had attended, affirming the deserving choice of the crowned queen.
The celebration was amplified by performances from local artists, including BeePee, Professa Maros, Jaymahy, B`Fall, and The Impactors Dancers. Hosted by MC Dogo Destiny and DJ Val, the event witnessed a massive turnout, transforming Lira Hotel’s hall into a vibrant scene.
