Lira University has announced plans to construct three state-of-the-art multi-billion shilling buildings aimed at enhancing its service delivery.
The planned structures include a six-floor Main Library block, an extension of the Teaching Hospital, and a new Faculty of Management Sciences. The designs for these buildings have been completed and are awaiting funding from the government and other partners.

The Teaching Hospital extension is designed to have a capacity of 232 patient beds across three blocks. Block A spans 966 square meters per floor, with a total area of 5,796 square meters, while Block B covers 904 square meters per floor, totaling 6,328 square meters. Block C will encompass 2,424 square meters. PAF Engineering Ltd was contracted to produce the designs for these projects.
The new Faculty of Management Sciences will consist of four blocks, accommodating the faculty administration and the departments of Commerce, Economics, and Public Administration and Management.
The Main Library block will cover 2,600 square meters per floor, summing up to 13,000 square meters over its six levels. All buildings are designed with modern waste disposal systems, utilizing septic tanks and soak away pits. The announcement was made via the University website

Briefly Lira University, one of the public universities in Uganda, began as a constituent college of Gulu University in 2009. It gained autonomy as a fully-fledged public university on July 16, 2015, through an Act of Parliament under Statutory Instrument 2015 No. 35. The university has the distinction of housing Uganda’s first university teaching hospital.
