APAC: Four Suspects Wanted by Police Over Mob Murder

Apac district is now at the center of a manhunt as police intensify efforts to apprehend four suspects wanted in connection with the brutal murder of Alemo Thomas. The 44-year-old victim, hailing from Oyeyi cell, Aminteng ward, Agulu Division in Apac Municipality, was allegedly beaten to death by a mob on January 19, 2024.

According to SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the North Kyoga Region, the suspects are identified as, Alemo Daniel, Obia Ronald, Odongo Vincent and Ogwang Peter

The incident happened in the morning of January 19, when the suspects accused Alemo of stealing a bull. The situation escalated quickly, leading to a fatal assault by the enraged mob. Acato Francis, a 66-year-old who reported the incident, prompted the registration of a murder case under CRB: 070/2024 at Apac police station.

SP Okema condemned the incident as “a very unfortunate incident” and urged the public to respect the rule of law, emphasizing Article 22 of the Constitution of Uganda, which safeguards the right to life. The police spokesperson highlighted that no one has the authority to take another person’s life.

The crime scene was thoroughly examined by law enforcement, and Alemo Thomas’s body was transported to Apac Hospital’s Mortuary for a postmortem examination. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the four suspects remain at large.

SP Jimmy Patrick Okema urged community members to assist the police in their investigations by providing any relevant information regarding the whereabouts of the suspects. The police are determined to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure the safety and security of the community.
