The announcement by the tweeting army general and First Son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, that he is open to meeting with opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, has caused a stir in Uganda.
The controversial tweet shared on Friday, March 31, 2023, comes just days after Muhoozi announced his intention to run for presidency in 2026.
Muhoozi’s tweet read: “I’m ready to meet my brother Mr. Robert Kyagulanyi anytime. Some of our people are demanding a meeting”. This statement has sparked debates among Ugandans who are curious about the motive behind the proposed meeting.
In 2022, Muhoozi used the same social media platform to praise former Forum for Democratic Change president, Kizza Besigye, stating that he had things to learn from him. However, he was quick to dismiss Bobi Wine, referring to him as “Kabobi” with a resounding “Hapana!”.

The news of Muhoozi’s invitation to Bobi Wine has many wondering what this could mean for the political climate in Uganda. Bobi Wine, who ran against incumbent President Yoweri Museveni in the 2021 elections, has been a vocal critic of the government and its policies. His party, National Unity Platform (NUP), has faced numerous challenges and arrests of its members since the election.
It remains to be seen whether the meeting between Muhoozi and Bobi Wine will take place and what impact it may have on the country’s political situation.
