UTCL Talent Search Event 2024 Set to Showcase Student Talents with Support from UNESCO
The Guild Leadership of Uganda Technical College Lira (UTCL) has announced the fifth edition of its highly anticipated annual Talent Search event, scheduled for Saturday, November 16, 2024.
The event, led by Aron Odongo, the current Guild Speaker, and organized with the support of UNESCO, aims to empower young people in tertiary institutions, promote health awareness, and highlight a diverse array of student talents.
The event’s primary theme, “Empowering the Youth for a Better Tomorrow through Talent Search,” promises to inspire both participants and spectators alike.
For the first time in the event’s history, UTCL is extending invitations to several neighboring institutions, including Victoria School of Nursing, Comprehensive School of Nursing, Good Samaritan School, King James School of Nursing, All Saints University, and Uganda Martyrs University.
Approximately 2,000 to 3,000 attendees are expected at the UTCL Main Hall to support their peers in a variety of activities and performances. Attendees will also have the opportunity to watch live YouTube streaming for those unable to attend in person.
Event Highlights
Participants will have the opportunity to showcase their talents across a range of activities, including debates, comedy, poetry, public speaking, and a DJ competition. Additionally, the event will feature football skills, a fashion show, modeling, and an eating competition, adding to the dynamic spirit of the day.
The Talent Search also emphasizes health education, particularly focused on HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention. This initiative is championed by UNESCO, which aims to promote health responsibility among students and foster a supportive campus environment for open health discussions.
“We aim to empower students with knowledge on how to stay HIV-free and maintain good health, especially in the context of tertiary education, where young people are more independent,” said Aron.
Judging and Prizes
To ensure fairness, the event organizers have arranged for an experienced external panel of judges, avoiding potential biases and allowing the best talent to shine. Winners in various categories will receive prizes, including boots for football enthusiasts and special memorabilia for eating competition champions. All participants will leave with keepsakes, ensuring lasting memories of the day.
The Guild and the entire UTCL community eagerly await this exciting day, hoping it will set a new standard for campus events and leave a positive impact on all participants. “We’re excited to see everyone gather, showcase their talents, and foster unity among students from different backgrounds,” Aron Odongo remarked, underscoring the college’s dedication to creating memorable experiences for its student body.
