In the latest FIFA men’s world rankings released on June 29, 2023, Uganda has dropped three places to position 92.
The national football team, known as the Uganda Cranes, scored 1250.32 points, experiencing a decrease of 7 points compared to their ranking on April 6, 2023.
Uganda’s highest historical ranking was position 62, while their lowest was position 121. On average, Uganda has maintained a ranking of around position 90.
Although the Uganda Cranes continue to dominate the CECAFA (Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations) region in the latest rankings, they have faced disappointing performances in the Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers, leading to their decline in the global rankings.
The current ranking of 92 means that Uganda will be placed in pot three for the Confederation of Africa Football qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup draws, which will take place next month.
In the CECAFA region, Uganda holds the top position, surpassing teams like Kenya (102), Tanzania (123) who are also part of their AFCON group, Rwanda (139), Burundi (140), and South Sudan (168).
Morocco leads the African rankings, followed by Senegal and Tunisia.
At the top of the global rankings, Argentina currently holds the number one spot, with France and Brazil following closely behind.
