Three individuals were rushed to Lira Medical Centre on Sunday evening after a road accident occurred near the Electoral Commission offices along Adek Okwok Road. The incident took place shortly after the thrilling FUFA Drum semi-final match between Lango and WestNile Province.
SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the PRO of North Kyoga region, reported that a collision involving two motorcycles resulted in serious injuries. Azala Joseph 22 years of age and passenger Odung Rosemary 46 years old on motorcycle Reg UFV 014E collided with another motorcycle (Reg No UFE 037K) coming from Pauline Hotel side.
The victims were promptly attended to by traffic officers from Lira-City CPS and transported to Lira Medical Centre for treatment as the motorcycles are currently held at CPS pending inspection.
The accident cast a shadow over the excitement of Lango’s 2-0 victory against West Nile at Akii Bua Stadium, where Denis Omedi netted a brace in the first leg of the FUFA Drum semi-finals. The return leg is scheduled for Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the Greenlight Stadium in Arua.
The overall winner will face the victor from the other semi-final, where Teso lost 1-2 to Busoga in the first leg.
It should be noted thatt this is not the first encounter between Lango and West Nile, with West Nile emerging as champions in the 3rd edition after defeating Lango with an aggregate score of 3-2 in 2022 edition.
The FUFA Drum, now in its fourth edition, have in records the previous winners with, Buganda Province in 2018, Acholi Province in 2019, and West Nile Province in 2022 following a big comeback from the Covid-19 hiatus.
