Sad news has emerged as Retired High Court judge Wilson Masalu Musene has passed away at the age of 67.
The Judiciary announced the news on Sunday, revealing that Musene died in Mbale on the same day. A statement issued by the Judiciary expressed condolences and stated that funeral arrangements would be announced later.
Musene retired from his position as Soroti resident judge on March 6, 2021, after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 65 years. However, he was given an additional three months to complete any pending chamber work. In April 2021, he was sent on forced leave for the remaining 52 days of his tenure.
In August 2020, the US Department of Treasury imposed financial sanctions and visa restrictions on Musene, along with retired Justice Moses Mukiibi, advocate Dorah Mirembe, and her husband, Patrick Ecobu. The reasons for the sanctions were not disclosed.
Justice Musene will be remembered for his contributions to the legal profession and his service to the people of Uganda. May he rest in eternal peace.
