The National Social Security Fund (NSSF), Employers have been given an additional 60 days to register their Employees. This extension comes as a welcome relief for many Employers who were struggling to meet the earlier deadline.
Patrick Ayota, the acting Managing Director of NSSF, confirmed this development just nine days prior to the expiry of the current deadline. The move is expected to give Employers ample time to complete the registration process and avoid penalties for non-compliance.
“It is 9 days to the end of the amnesty period that the Fund had initially announced. However, during the last three weeks, we have received numerous requests from many employers to extend the registration. We are therefore glad to announce a deadline up to June 30, 2023, to enable them make necessary arrangements,” he said.
The minister of Gender Labour and social development, Betty Amongi, has also emphasized the importance of protecting workers’ rights for increased production.
Speaking on the matter, she stated that safeguarding the rights of employees is crucial for creating a conducive work environment and promoting sustainable economic growth.
This decision by the NSSF to extend the registration deadline is expected to relieve the pressure on Employers and enable them to prioritize the welfare of their workers.
It is hoped that this move will facilitate a more efficient and effective registration process, which will ultimately benefit both Employers and Employees alike.
All eligible employers are now obliged to & can now register and contribute to NSSF. The Fund is focusing on SMEs, Informal sector workers and the self-employed in the registration drive.
