The state House Anti-corruption unit has on Wednesday evening arrested two Lira District offocials over illegal sale of government land.
The suspects are the district Natural resource officer, Mr. Fabious Otike and the cartographer at the zonal office, Mr. Joel Ogwang.
The suspects were arrested for allegedly selling off plot 3 to 5 land in Ireda Estate which belonged to Lira District Local Government.
It’s alleged that the accused in 2019 sold off plot 3- 5 land, located along Ben Omol road to one Rebecca Atoo.
It is also said that the accuseds through the help of the Lira District surveyor Mr Francis Opio, processed the land title in the names of Atoo, without the acknowledgement of the Lira District area land committee and the Area land board.
The land alleged to have been sold by the accused’s is part of the government land that they left aside while surveying other plots of the lands owned by the District.
The accused were taken to Kampala by press time where they are expected to appear before the anti-corruption court to answer charges levied against them.
