During the 56th anniversary celebration of Lira Diocese on Saturday, Bishop of the diocese Rt. Rev. Sanctus Lino Wanok emphasized the importance of unity and deep spiritual connections among believers for achieving greater success.
Addressing hundreds of Christians gathered at Lira Cathedral’s ordination ground, he centered his sermon on the theme “The Church of One Heart, One Mind, and One Soul.”
Bishop Wanok urged Christians to embrace togetherness and unity in their actions, acknowledging the challenges but highlighting their transformative potential.
At the event, political leaders also committed to collaborating with spiritual leaders to combat corruption in society.
Oyam District Woman MP Santa Alum, serving as the guest of honor, emphasized the need for political leaders to join hands with spiritual leaders in combatting corruption within our society.
She highlighted their role as a unifying force among community members, regardless of their titles, health, or educational backgrounds.
Judith Alek, Chairperson of the Lango parliamentary and Kole Woman Member of Parliament, emphasized on the crucial role of political leaders maintaining close ties with the church. She highlighted that churches impart morals essential for effective leadership in society, emphasizing that leaders grounded in faith often excel.
Alek also call upon Christians to embrace diligence, actively participating in government initiatives such as PDM and Youth Livelihood Programs to combat poverty. She cautioned against seeing these programs as merely handouts, urging proper engagement and practical implementation.
Reflecting on the impact of the event, Jimmy Okello, a catechist at Lira Cathedral, praised Bishop Wanok’s leadership, urging fellow religious leaders to emulate his example in fostering a legacy of unity and service.
William Ocen, a Christian expressed his joy at meeting fellow Catholics from different parishes, underscoring the community-building aspect of such celebrations.
The Holy See founded Lira Diocese in 1968, appointing Fr. Caesar Asili as its inaugural Bishop. Bishop Sanctus Lino Wanok assumed the role as the 4th Bishop in 2019. The diocese covers 30 parishes and over 1200 churches spread throughout its territory.
