Agrisol Africa Limited, a leading agricultural company in Lango subregion, has taken proactive steps to combat climate change and promote soil health in Uganda.
Walter Okol, the CEO of Agrisol Africa Limited, highlighted the internal displacement issue in northern Uganda, where farmers are leaving their districts in search of more fertile land. Additionally, the growing population in the country has limited the available agricultural areas. To address these challenges, Agrisol Africa Limited emphasizes the use of technology, including fertilizers, pesticides, fungicides, and manure, to enhance production in smaller farming spaces.

Mr. Okol announced their initiative to work closely with farmers in addressing these challenges. One of their key projects involves encouraging farmers to utilize local materials through the Bokashi fertilizer project.
The project intends to produce organic fertilizers using local resources, benefiting 1533 farmers across selected areas of Lango Sub-region. This initiative not only helps farmers improve their production but also fosters community interaction, allowing farmers from different districts to collaborate and learn from each other.

Jackline Akullo, a field officer at Agrisol Africa Limited, detailed the composition of Bokashi fertilizer. It is made from various organic materials like banana suckers, maize remains, rice, sawdust, molasses, yeast, charcoal granules, ash, manure from animals and humans, and water.
Farmers have been advised on proper usage, including protecting the fertilizer from direct sunlight and rain during the 12 to 15 days of decomposition. The fertilizer can be applied during and after plantations, enhancing agricultural practices.
Agrisol Africa Limited received support from the AlphaMundi Foundation, which is committed to promoting gender inclusion and environmental sustainability. The foundation aims to empower Ugandan farmers by providing technical guidance and promoting the production of organic fertilizers using locally available materials. Through this partnership, Agrisol Africa Limited has been able to assist over 5,000 farmers, leading to increased yields and sustainable agricultural practices.
