In Gulu District, staff members have reportedly refused to work under mango trees as the district’s leadership lobbies for funds to complete the Shs8 billion district headquarters.
The Chief Administrative Officer Ismael Ochengel had issued a directive on February 28 requiring all district technical staff to relocate from Gulu City to Awach Town Council, the seat of the district, as they continue to lobby for more funds.
However, some staff members are reluctant to comply with the move, citing concerns about working in the open under mango trees.
One senior official at the district who preferred anonymity stated, “I would rather remain in Gulu City where I am easily accessible by all the staff I work with than go and be redundant under mango trees in Awach.”
In response, the Resident District Commissioner Charles Ichogor has implored the staff to relocate to the new location in Awach so that they can use it as a lobbying tool for the Central Government to provide funds to complete the project.
