From Oyam to Global Recognition: Dr. Sharon Okello Awarded PhD for Leadership Excellence

Dr. Sharon Okello Nagenjwa, a visionary and dynamic leader, has been honored with an Honorary PhD in Communication and Corporate Management from the prestigious British American University, Florida, USA. This accolade comes as recognition of her outstanding contributions across various sectors and her relentless commitment to societal transformation.

Born in Oyam district, Northern Uganda, Dr. Sharon’s career began at just 17 when she became the Executive Assistant to the CEO of NBS Television, Uganda. This early exposure to leadership launched her path toward professional success.

Her academic achievements include a Master’s Degree in Development Communication from Daystar University, Nairobi, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication from Uganda Christian University. Additionally, she holds various certifications in leadership, strategic planning, and human resource management, which have bolstered her expertise in communication, project management, and administration.

The Honorary PhD acknowledges not only her academic achievements but also her visionary leadership in the fields of communication and corporate management, celebrating her ability to drive societal change.

Dr. Okello currently serves as the Executive Director of NUWEBIZ Foundation and Chief Executive Officer of Triumph Women Uganda, organizations that focus on uplifting women in business and entrepreneurship. Under her leadership, both entities have championed gender equality, providing women with essential skills to achieve financial independence.

Her influence extends beyond national borders as she serves on the Steering Committee of the World Bank-funded Generating Growth Opportunities for Women (GROW) project. Through this initiative, Dr. Sharon has been instrumental in equipping women in refugee districts in Northern Uganda with business skills, helping them to build sustainable livelihoods and contributing to long-term economic and social development.

In addition to her work in women’s empowerment, Dr. Okello plays a vital role in national development as the Administrator of the AFCON 2027 Secretariat in Uganda.

Her leadership in this capacity is helping Uganda prepare to host the prestigious tournament, further solidifying her reputation as a leader who can effect change on both a local and international level.
