Dr. Apio Otuko Eunice has officially taken the oath the Member of Parliament for Oyam County North in Oyam District. The oath of allegiance and for Member of Parliament was administered during a plenary sitting chaired by Speaker Anita Among on Thursday, 20 July 2023.
Hon. Eunice, a member of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) Party, assumes the seat that fell vacant following the unfortunate demise Hon. Charles Engola, who also served as the State Minister for Labour.
Her victory in the Oyam County North by-election was declared by the Electoral Commission on Thursday, 06 July 2023. She garnered an impressive 15,718 votes, surpass her closest contender, Samuel Engola Okello of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party, who obtained 15,176 votes.
Speaker Among congratulated Dr. Eunice her successful election to the 11th Parliament and emphasized the importance ofiding by the existing laws that govern the operations of the legislature. She highlighted that the Parliament is dedicated to serving the needs and aspirations of the people of Uganda.
To aid in her legislative work, the Speaker presented Dr. Eunice with a copy of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda and the Rules of Procedure of Parliament.
During the swearing-in ceremony, Dr. Eunice was accompanied by several legislators, including UPC Party President, Hon. Jimmy Akena, and UPC’s Hon. Santa Alum, the Oyam District Woman Representative.
Prior to her political career, Dr. Eunice served as a Research Fellow in Gender and Transitional Justice at the University of Birmingham. She has been actively involved in disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration programs in Northern Uganda since 2001.
