Coronation of Wonyaci Elect Dr. Odongo Okune Receives UGX 10 Million Boost from MTN Uganda

MTN Uganda has announced a contribution of UGX 10Mlillion towards the coronation of Wonyaci Elect Dr. Eng. Michael Moses Odongo Okune as the paramount elect chief of Lango Cultural Institution.

The coronation is scheduled to take place on November 2, 2024, at Mayor’s Garden in Lira city, with His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni expected to be the chief guest accompanied by several dignitaries across Africa marking a historic milestone for the Lango community.

MTN Uganda has on Friday contributed a total of UGX 10 million in-kind support to ensure the smooth running of the event.

Philip Odoi, the Regional Commercial Head for the North at MTN Uganda highlighted the importance of community partnerships as he hands over the dummy check to coronation finance committee stating, “Our relationship with the Lango chiefdom is a testament to our commitment to fostering shared value in the communities we serve.”

He also expressed his heartfelt congratulations to the chief and the Lango people during the press time. “This coronation is not only a celebration of leadership but also a powerful reminder of our cultural heritage that the Lango people have safeguarded for generations,” he stated.

To facilitate contributions from the public, MTN Uganda has launched a dedicated mobile money merchant code, 70559, allowing the people of Lango and well-wishers to support the coronation and the cultural institution actively.

Odoi echoed MTN’s long-term commitment to supporting initiatives that uplift the socioeconomic well-being of the Lango people.

Bosco Ogwang Edola, Chair of Finance for the Local Organizing Committee of the coronation, expressed gratitude for MTN’s support. “This generous contribution showcases MTN Uganda’s commitment to the successful coordination of this historic event. We are excited about their willingness to participate in additional activities leading up to the coronation,” he said.

Peter Okelo Oyo, Chairperson of the Transition Committee, also shared his appreciation for MTN’s involvement, stating that the partnership will enhance the upcoming coronation and other community initiatives. He reassured attendees of the event’s unstoppable nature, citing the government’s official gazetting of the elect as a significant step forward.

As excitement grows for the coronation of Wonyaci elect Dr. Michael Moses Odongo Okune on November 2, 2024, under the Lango Cultural Institution, it is important to note that Ambassador Dickson Ogwang Okul is also set to be crowned as the paramount chief of the Lango Cultural Foundation on October 26, 2024 according to the news on the street.
