A joint regional council meeting was held on thursday in Oyam district by Lango leaders to pay tribute to the late Minister of State for Labor, Employment and Industrial Relations, Rtd. Col. Okello Engola, who was recently slain at his home in Kampala by his bodyguard.
During the meeting, 12 resolutions were listed by Oyam district chairman Benson Dila Oyuku, which were adopted without exception by the council.
The resolutions include promoting Rtd. Col. Okello Engola to Lt. General, tarmacking the Iceme to Oyam town Council road, taking care of his family and educating his children, ending insecurity caused by cattle theft by suspected Karamojong cattle rustlers, and deploying former Amuka militia group to fight the cattle rustlers.
Other resolutions passed during the meeting include upgrading Anyeke Health Center IV to a general hospital, completing projects started by Rtd. Col. Okello Engola, including the construction of Agoba vocational school and another in Apac district. The clan leader of Otikokin Sam Engola also promised to support members of the clan that Okello Engola was paying school fees for.
The meeting was chaired by Oyam district speaker, Otyeno Nommy, who urged the government to ensure a thorough investigation into the murder of Rtd. Col. Okello Engola.
The burial of the fallen minister is slated for this Saturday, 13th/May/2023 at his ancestral home in Awangi village, Iceme Sub County, Oyam district.
