Former presidential candidate and National Unity Platform (NUP) leader, Robert Kyagulanyi, has once again voiced his concerns over the state of poverty in Uganda.
Speaking at an opposition function where they presented their alternative budget for the financial year 2023/24, Kyagulanyi attributed the existing poverty among Ugandans to what he termed as ‘weak leadership’.
According to Kyagulanyi, Uganda is a very rich country with abundant resources, but the majority of the population is living in extreme poverty due to poor management of taxpayer’s money by those in power.
He emphasized that the fight against corruption should be intensified to ensure that all Ugandans benefit from the available resources equally.
The issue of poverty in Uganda has been a long-standing problem, with millions of people living below the poverty line. This situation has been worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has impacted many sectors of the economy, leaving vulnerable households struggling to make ends meet.
Kyagulanyi’s call for strong leadership and effective management of the country’s resources is timely and critical, especially as the country heads into the next financial year.
His message resonates with many Ugandans who are looking for solutions to the pressing issues facing the country, including unemployment, inadequate healthcare, and poor infrastructure.
