Fueled by a determined spirit to defend their championship title, the team clinched victories in various track events, showcasing their prowess on the international stage.
Joan Alobo and Helen Auma led the charge by securing first positions in separate 100m heats, displaying lightning-fast speed. In the 400m heats, Robert Ssekitoleeko and Bernard Odoi emerged victorious in their respective races, further solidifying Uganda’s dominance on the track.
The 1500m races witnessed defending champion Julius Acon securing a resounding victory for Uganda in the men’s category, while Christine Akello finished second in the women’s race despite facing joint cramps in the final lap.
The team’s supremacy extended to the 4x100m relays, where both the men’s and women’s teams secured triumphs, highlighting the cohesive teamwork and talent within Uganda’s parliamentary athletes. Coach Inzikuru expressed gratitude for the support from Parliament leadership and conveyed confidence in securing more medals in the upcoming games scheduled for December 16, 2023.
In soccer, Uganda’s football team, captained by Moses Magogo, displayed exceptional prowess by defeating the hosts, Rwanda, with an impressive 12-0 scoreline. Karim Masaba’s hat trick and Muhammed Nsereko’s brace contributed to the remarkable victory.
Looking ahead, the golf team, led by Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, is gearing up for their debut at the Kigali Golf Club. Tayebwa acknowledged the challenge posed by the Kenyan team but expressed unwavering confidence in Uganda’s preparedness and team spirit.
The sporting action continues with upcoming matches in basketball and volleyball against Tanzania and Rwanda, respectively.
