President Museveni Endorses Five Key Bills into Law

President Museveni has signed five pivotal bills into law, as announced by Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Thomas Tayebwa, during Tuesday’s legislative session.

The newly ratified laws encompass the Civil Aviation Amendment Act 2024, Judicature Amendment Act 2023, Explosives Act 2023, Competition Act 2023, and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act 2023.

The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act 2023, specifically, has been reintroduced by the government following its nullification by the constitutional court due to a lack of quorum during its initial passage through parliament. This legislation holds the objective of criminalizing the cultivation, supply, and trade of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

Mr. Tayebwa also highlighted the urgency of addressing consumer protection concerns. He urged the Minister of Trade and Cooperatives to actively work on the Consumer Protection and Management Bill.

This proposed legislation aims to shield consumers from fraudulent and dishonest practices in commercial transactions, demonstrating the government’s commitment to ensuring fair and transparent dealings in the marketplace.
