Following the demise of the esteemed Hon. Cecilia Ogwal, Dr. Rosemary Alwoc Ogwal, daughter of the late, has passionately pledged to uphold her mother’s mission of empowering girls in the Dokolo district.
Dr. Alwoc, joined by other family members, recently spearheaded the distribution of educational materials to 120 top-performing students in the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) in Dokolo. This initiative reflects the ongoing commitment to the yearly tradition initiated by Cecilia Ogwal, dedicated to advancing girls’ education.
Before her untimely demise, Cecilia Ogwal diligently distributed scholastic materials to all best PLE performers in Dokolo and the outstanding girls in every district within the Lango subregion. This tradition, spanning 19 years, reflects a steadfast commitment to promoting girls’ education in the region.
During Cecilia Ogwal’s funeral on the 27th of last month, the family publicly announced their determination to carry on with all the projects left pending by the late advocate for girls’ education. In a poignant display of commitment, on Saturday, 10th February 2024, the family distributed 120 mattresses and provided transportation assistance to the best-performing girls in Dokolo district.
Denis Livingstone Okello, the District Inspector of Schools, commended the Ogwal family’s initiative, stating that it has contributed positively to the academic performance of girls in the region. While acknowledging existing challenges, Okello expressed the family’s desire to partner with the government to enhance and scale up the results achieved.
Dr. Rosemary Alwoc is among the 13 aspirants who have expressed interest in succeeding her late mother, Cecilia Ogwal, as the Dokolo Woman MP. The position fell vacant on the 18th of last month when Cecilia Ogwal succumbed to cancer in India. The FDC is considering endorsing Dr. Alwoc, pitting her against contenders such as NRM’s Janet Rose Adongo, UPC’s Sarah Aguti Nyangkori, and over six independent candidates. The filing took place on the 10th, with the run scheduled for the 11th of February 2024.
Today, on the 12th of February 2024, the Electoral Commission is expected to hold a meeting with stakeholders to provide guidance and outline the roadmap for the upcoming Dokolo Woman MP By-elections.
