As the national examination season begins, the Assistant Resident City Commissioner (RCC) Lira City, Bonny Otucu has called for heightened vigilance against exam malpractice across Lira City and the country at large.
Speaking ahead of the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE), and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) exams, Commissioner Otucu warned of masqueraders posing as agents of the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB), attempting to sell fake exam papers to students and schools.
“I am aware that during this time, we always have people who move around schools, penetrating through teachers, pupils, and students, with the intention of selling fake papers. These people claim their papers are from UNEB, but their goal is to extort money from schools and parents,” Otucu said.
He urged school administrators, parents, and students to be on high alert and to report any suspicious activities to the authorities. “We call upon all concerned individuals to notify the relevant authorities or the city leaders, especially security, so that immediate action can be taken to arrest these individuals.”
Otucu also addressed the critical role of parents in supporting their children during this crucial period. He reminded parents to clear any outstanding school fees to avoid any interruptions in their children’s exam schedules, emphasizing that needy students should be allowed to sit for their exams, with fees issues to be settled afterward. “We urge schools to allow students to complete their exams, even if there are outstanding fees balances, as this can be sorted out after results are released,” he said.
The Assistant RCC reiterated the need for collective responsibility, calling on leaders, religious institutions, and the entire community to provide support, guidance, and prayers for the students. “As leaders, parents, and schools, we must support our children as they face these exams. This is a key step in determining their future, and we must ensure they succeed.”
