The lorry driver involved in a tragic road accident on Lira-Soroti highway, which took three lives on May 25, 2024, hands himself to police
The incident happened around 8:00 PM in the Abutadi area, where a Costa bus with registration number UBL 851Z collided with a Fuso fighter lorry bearing registration number UBA 200J, as reported by the Uganda Police.

The Costa bus, belonging to Dokolo School of Nursing, was transporting Lango Province football players from Dokolo to Lira City. The Fuso lorry, carrying passengers returning from a traditional marriage, was traveling from Lira towards Dokolo. According to eyewitnesses and preliminary police reports, the driver of the Fuso lorry, allegedly speeding, lost control and collided head-on with the Costa bus.
The collision resulted in the immediate deaths of three individuals at the scene. Numerous others sustained serious injuries. Emergency responders rushed 16 passengers from the Costa bus and 44 passengers from the Fuso lorry to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

The driver of the Costa bus remains in critical condition at the hospital, while the driver of the Fuso lorry has turned himself in at Kabedomaido police station. He is awaiting transportation to Lira City Central Police Station for further questioning and to assist in the ongoing investigation.
Both vehicles remain at the accident scene, pending towing operations.
North Kyoga Police Spokesperson, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, attributed the accident to reckless driving by the Fuso lorry driver. In a press release, SP Okema urged all drivers and road users to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent such devastating incidents.
