Angom had recently relocated from Kirombe Cell in Lira City to her sister’s residence in Abedpiny Cell. The report further indicates that in the early hours of July 10th, 2023, at around 1:00 am, Angom Mirriam experienced labor pains and left the house, moving a short distance away. It was there, approximately forty meters away, that she gave birth to a baby girl on the bare ground. Shockingly, immediately after the birth, she took a hoe, dug a shallow pit less than 1.5 meters deep, and buried her newborn baby alive.
The alarm was raised by suspicious community members who noticed the sudden disappearance of Angom Mirriam’s pregnancy.
The police were alerted, and upon arriving at the scene, they found that concerned community members had already rescued the baby as the documented the scene and gathered relevant statements while taking Angom Mirriam into custody.
The rescued baby girl was immediately rushed to Hospital for medical treatment as authorities plan to conduct a thorough medical assessment using Police Form 24 to determine the mental state of the suspect, Angom Mirriam.
Law enforcement officials have assured the public that the investigation will be conducted diligently, and once complete, the suspect, Angom Mirriam, is likely to face charges of attempted murder.
