Bodyguard Shoots Minister Engola Dead, Turns Gun On Self

Tragic news has been reported as the State Minister for Labour, Charles Engola, was shot dead by one of his own bodyguards in Kyanja, Kampala on Tuesday morning. The UPDF bodyguard also turned the gun on himself after killing Engola.

Speaker of Parliament Anita Among confirmed the incident to the house during their sitting today. According to initial reports, Charles Okello Engola had just left his home and was heading to work when one of his bodyguards shot him dead.

The bodyguard then began shooting in the air while roaming the neighbourhood. He later retreated to a nearby salon, where he ordered the people inside to leave before turning the gun on himself.

Reports say the soldier was yelling that he had not been paid for a long time, despite working for a minister. This tragic incident has sent shockwaves through Uganda, and investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack.

Charles Engola was a respected figure in Ugandan politics, having served as the State Minister for Defence from 2016 to 2021 before being appointed as the State Minister for Labour in May 2021.

He was also the Member of Parliament for Oyam County North constituency.
