The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Maj. Gen. Geoffrey Tumusiime Katsigazi, has urged the people of Northern Uganda affected by cattle raiders to remain calm as the police is committed to handling the matter. Katsigazi made the call during his tour to assess police performance, security situation and police welfare in the region.
Katsigazi, together with other directors from police headquarters, arrived in North Kyoga and visited the old structure housing the central police station before checking the status of Lira Police health center II at Police Barracks and the regional headquarter at Erute. He later held a closed-door meeting with police leadership in the region.
Speaking at a press conference at Pauline Hotel in Lira on thursday, Katsigazi said that one of the reasons for his tour is to find a lasting solution to the cattle raids in the area.

According to police records, 273 cattle have been raided from Otuke district, and 172 have been recovered by the joint security forces. The raids have left several in fear and tension while others have begun fleeing the district with their animals.
Katsigazi also acknowledged the challenges faced by the police in the region, including poor accommodation and inadequate manpower. However, he assured the public that bidding is ongoing to erect better houses for police officers, and efforts are being made to recruit more officers despite resource constraints.
He also interacted with all the Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) in Lango.
