The former Aruu lawmaker, Hon. Odonga Otto, who is currently in Europe for further studies on a state scholarship in the sports law has mocked at the National Unity Platform party (NUP), accusing them with facilitating and fuelling hate speech on social media platforms.
Odonga Otto’s controverisal tweet attacking NUP
Echoing his opinion at a time when the country grapples with the suggested computer misuse bill tabled by Kampala central MP Muhammad Nsereko, the ex Aruu MP seems to suggest that the bill is justified. In a tweet statement he wrote this morning on his known handle, Odonga says:
“The level of hate speech, hate post and hatred being exhibited by NUP on social media is too much.
The hatred borders tribalism and even goes to speculating and celebrating death.
Ugandans need to double think before entrusting such characters with state power.” Otonga tweeted.
However, a section of his followers have asked him to look into the circumstances that have driven the opposition youths into being toxic on social media.
Several opine that government locked all avenues of dissenting opinions and therefore social media remains the only space people can express their feelings towards the regime.
“They made the public order management bill of 2013 to restrict public gatherings, came up with OTT and now social media bills. This is the very regime that wantonly kills and abducts youths. What else do you expect from such a bitter generation? You expect them to give you roses?,” asked one NUP supporter on Twitter.
