Museveni Signs Anti-Homosexuality Law.

President Yoweri Museveni has signed the Anti-Homosexuality Bill into law, which criminalizes acts of LGBTQ in the country. The announcement was made by the speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon Anita Among, in a statement she released via Twitter on Monday morning.

According to Article 91 (3) (a) of the Constitution, the President has executed his constitutional mandate, and the Parliament of Uganda has answered the cries of their people.

The statement further emphasized the protection of the sanctity of family, which is enshrined in Article 31 of the Ugandan Constitution. The Parliament also stood strong to defend the culture and aspirations of their people as per objectives 19 & 24 of national objectives and directive principles of state policy.

The Speaker expressed her gratitude to the Members of Parliament for withstanding all the pressure from bullies and doomsday conspiracy theorists in the interest of Uganda.

“…I now encourage the duty bearers under the law to execute the mandate bestowed upon them in the Anti-Homosexuality Act. The people of Uganda have spoken, and it is your duty to now enforce the law in a fair, steadfast, and firm manner….” Says Anita Among.

The statement further urged fair, steadfast, and firm enforcement of the law in line with Articles 1 and 79 of the Constitution.
