Rising Dancehall star Lil Square finds himself at the center of controversy as his former manager, Isaac Awio, the proprietor of Awio Scrap Dealers, demands UGX 10 million in compensation for an alleged contract violation.
Awio has threatened to repossess and sell Lil Square’s car to recover the money, citing the time and resources he invested in the artist’s career.
In a phone interview with Lira Sqoop, Awio expressed his frustration, claiming to have played a pivotal role in elevating Lil Squre to fame by financing and supporting his career. Known as a scrap dealer, Awio asserted his seriousness about selling the artist’s car for parts if his demands are not met.
The two entered into a three-year management contract on August 29, 2023, with Awio pledging to propel Lil Square’s artistry to greater heights in the East African music scene and beyond. By then, Awio emphasized the importance of dedication and hard work in their collaboration, expressing confidence in Lil Square’s talent and committing to provide full support.
However, Awio announced in November 2023 that he was stepping away from the music industry say he would be committed in serving in the Lord`s Ministry, raising questions about the future of their partnership.
Lil Squre Responds
The dispute is escalating as Lil Square took to social media to disprove Awio’s claims, stating, “Awio showed interest in managing me because I was already a star of my own caliber. I came to realize that Awio only wanted to use me. I helped him make money to finish his Heavens Hotel! All my bookings went through him, and I barely saw any of the money.”
Lil Squre also accused Awio of investing in another artist, Eezzy the Lyrical, rather than supporting him, dismissing Awio’s claim of financial contributions as “total lies.”
In his heated response, Square called Awio indecisive, stating, “Awio doesn’t know his stand. He wants to be a musician, a pastor, a ganja man—he is just everywhere. If he wants to see the real me, let him try!”
