In a recent television interview, renowned producer and musician Daddy Andre voiced strong opinions on Uganda’s music industry and criticized the suitability of Eddy Kenzo, the Grammy-nominated artist and senior presidential adviser, in his current advisory role.
Andre, known for his hit “Tugende Mu Church,” questioned Kenzo’s qualifications, suggesting that Kenzo lacks technical knowledge essential for advising in the creative sector.
“How can a person who is illiterate be my advisor towards the sector of creatives?” Andre asked, citing Kenzo’s limited experience with technical music equipment like compressors and mixers.
This criticism did not sit well with fellow artist and Gagamel boss, Bebe Cool. Bebe, a longtime supporter of President Museveni and the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), issued a pointed response, defending Kenzo’s achievements and role.
“I want to warn Daddy Andre that among the people he should fear and give respect to is Kenzo. He has been doing his things in a calculative way,” Bebe Cool said, noting that being selected as a presidential adviser requires more than just musical experience.
Bebe further disclosed that Kenzo has been engaging in high-level discussions with government officials, including presenting formal proposals for the industry. He dismissed Andre’s criticism, asserting that if the President had seen Andre as a better choice, he would have been given the role. “Stop making it a crime for people to meet the President,” Bebe Cool remarked, adding, “Just because you don’t have an opportunity can’t make you reason properly.”
