As preparations intensify for the upcoming coronation ceremony of the newly elected Won Nyaci (Paramount Chief) of the Lango Cultural Institution, a significant traditional ceremony took place in Ibjuje, Apac District, where Imat Hellen Odora, also known as Imat Gede-gede, handed over their son, Eng. Dr. Michael Moses Odongo Okune, to serve as the paramount chief.

This symbolic handover, steeped in tradition, represents a key milestone leading up to the coronation scheduled for Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Lira Mayor’s Garden.
During the event, Hon. Maxwell Ebong Patrick Akora, Maruzi County MP and Vice Chair of the coronation’s Organizing Committee, underscored the importance of unity and reconciliation within the Lango community, saying, “I believe the election of H.H. Eng. Dr. Michael Moses Odongo Okune will open multiple doors for the development of Lango as a whole.”
Akora shared that dignitaries, including five kings from Kenya, Somalia, and other regions, are expected to join the event in Lira City, making it a historic gathering.
Adding to the preparations, Moses Odongo Aber was installed as the Awitong (Clan Chief) of Okar Omwono, succeeding Eng. Dr. Okune, who will now assume new responsibilities within the council of Owitong.
His formal coronation on Saturday will signify the beginning of his tenure as Won Nyaci.
