Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC TV) reporter and bearu chief Lango, Eddy Olwa, has been recognized as one of Uganda’s top excelling journalists.
He received a prestigious national award from the African Centre for Media Excellence for his exceptional work in religion reporting in an award ceremony held in Kampala on Wednesday 31st July 2024.
Olwa’s notable stories include his in-depth coverage of the 10-year church wrangle between PAG and Yahweh Mission in Lango, which had significant consequences for the region. His dedication to shedding light on critical religious issues has earned him this well-deserved recognition.
The award acknowledges Olwa’s commitment to journalistic excellence, his ability to tackle complex stories with sensitivity and depth, and his significant impact on the community. This recognition solidifies his position as a leading journalist in Uganda.
Interestingly, Olwa’s journey to journalism was not as you may think. He started as a commercial photographer in his early childhood and is also an Agriculturalist by profession from Arapai Agricultural Institute.
However, he wisely ventured into journalism, graduating from UMCAT School of Mass Communication and Journalism in 2022.
His reporting skills, integrity, and adherence to journalistic ethics have earned him widespread recognition in Lango, making UBC news one of the most-watched TV news programs in the subregion.
In brief, The African Centre for Media Excellence hosts the annual Uganda National Journalism Awards, launched in 2014 to promote excellence in journalism and recognize outstanding reporting on public affairs issues, ultimately enhancing the quality of journalism in Uganda.
Congratulations to Eddy Olwa on this well-deserved achievement!
