The Alebtong District Territorial Police are probing a suspected murder by stabbing involving Okul Stephen, a 35-year-old resident. The incident occurred on January 12, 2024, around 2100 hours in OLOI VILLAGE, TETYANG PARISH, ITEK Sub-County, LIRA DISTRICT.
According to North Kyoga Police Spokesperson, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the report was filed at ALOI POLICE STATION by ANGERAI ISAAC, a 38-year-old councilor from AWEPEK VILLAGE, AWEPEK WARD, ALEBTONG DISTRICT.
The altercation began when Okul Stephen had a dispute with OJok Ivan, escalating into a physical fight. Ojok Ivan, in response, used a knife to stab Okul Stephen on the left side of the neck, leading to severe bleeding and loss of consciousness. The tragic incident unfolded on the veranda of Okello Jasper’s bar, where Okul Stephen succumbed to his injuries.
An enraged mob subsequently attacked OJok Ivan, inflicting serious head injuries and rendering him unconscious. OJok Ivan was swiftly transported to Alebtong Health Center IV for urgent medical attention.
Efforts to locate the bar owner, Mr. Okello Jasper, are underway to gather his statement and aid the ongoing investigation. The crime scene has been visited, documented, and Okul Stephen’s body transported to Alebtong Health Centre IV for a pending postmortem examination.
A knife, believed to be the weapon used, has been recovered as evidence. The Alebtong Central Police Station has registered a murder case, emphasizing the need for community members to seek peaceful conflict resolution through local leadership.
SP Okema expressed deep regret over the incident, urging the public to employ non-violent means for conflict resolution within the community.
