The Otuke District has been hit by a shocking incident of murder by a mob that occurred on May 25th, 2023.
According to reports by the North Kyoga Police Spoke Person SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, one person was killed, and another injured during the attack that took place in Apur “A” village, Alango Sub-County.
The victim has been identified as Olobo Felix, a 25-year-old resident of Cura village, Ngetta Sub-County, Lira-City East Division.
The incident allegedly began when a local peasant farmer named Apiri Grace, took her three sheep out to graze. Upon returning home, she heard some strange noises coming from where she had left her sheep. After considering, she discovered that her sheep had been stolen by two men who had fled on a motorcycle. She raised an alarm, and with the help of community members, they tracked and caught up with the suspects at Apur ‘A’ village.
However, instead of turning the suspects over to the authorities, the angry mob turned on them, lynching one of the men, Olobo Felix, to death. They also set fire to the motorcycle they were traveling on, a UEZ 371F. One suspect, Okoo Gerald, was rescued by the area’s local council leader (LCI) from the angry mob.
