The Apac Municipal senior inspector of schools Mr Moses Opio has sounded serious warnings to head teachers against turning the phones distributed under “Teacher Effectiveness and Learner’s Achievement Program” TELA program for personal use instead to have gazette points accessible by all the teachers in their respective schools.
Mr Opio made this remarks on monday during an indution training on TELA project entitiled to control and reduce on cases of absenteeism and also improve on the performance since teachers will have enough time to stay in school.
He further welcomed the development saying it’s highly of importance since it will help them and the line Ministry in monitoring of teacher’s performances while learners are retained at schools effectively.
“Teacher Effectiveness and Learner’s Achievement Program” (TELA) started last year with Eastern Uganda and its currently being rolled out in Northern Uganda with supoort from the Ministry of Education and Sports throughout the country.
According to the system, on arrival one has to capture his or her face and it is saved automatically in the phone where it is sent to the ministry instantly.
On Monday, 06th March 2023 Apac school heads were able to benefit from the exercise that took place at Scouts Hall Apac Town where they receives smartphones fully fixed with two customized sim cards of Airtel and MTN to carry on the TELA program.
The district recieved 70 smartphones in the ration of 16 smartphones asigned to Apac Municipality and Apac district getting 54 with both primary and secondary schools benefiting from this.
However some of the schools did not get the gadgets but the authority promised to make follow-ups with the ministry. The schools includes, Apele, Ayago, Apac seed secondary and all annex primary schools.
The project coordinator for TELA in Apac Municipality, Mr. Isaac Oding noted that the initative aims at addressing irregularity within education system as it will inform the Ministry in making follow-ups on the key issues that may arise from these learning institutions.
He added that the system is linked directly to the Ministry of Education and Sports and will always expose cases of absenteeism and the rate at which syllabus is being covered per School.
