Jimmy Okello, the Assistant Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Alebtong, has expressed his gratitude for the successful presidential tour in the Lango subregion.
He commended the people of Lango for turning up in large numbers for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s rally in Alebtong. Okello also extended his appreciation to the Government Chief Whip, Hon. Hamson Obua, for his diligent efforts in mobilizing the community as the area Member of Parliament for Ajuri County.
Additionally, Okello thanked the ministers and Members of Parliament for endorsing President Museveni as the sole candidate under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket for the 2026 elections.
During his visit, President Museveni urged the people of the Lango subregion to take advantage of the prevailing peace to create wealth and eradicate poverty from their homes. He emphasized that peace is a fundamental driver of economic development, enabling investment, business growth, and job creation.
“When you are planning public affairs, first of all, think about peace. How can we bring and maintain peace? And anybody who’s trying to disturb peace, don’t allow them because peace is an infrastructure for everything,” President Museveni remarked while addressing leaders at Ikwera Boma Playground in Aduku Town Council, Kwania District, on January 29, 2025.
Museveni reassured leaders that the government remains committed to improving infrastructure in the region to foster wealth creation. He cited ongoing rehabilitation of the 66.5-kilometer Lira-Kamdini Road and the construction of the Ochero-Amolatar-Namasale and Dokolo roads. The President, however, urged the people to be patient, explaining that significant funds have been allocated to the Parish Development Model (PDM), which aims to uplift households from poverty.
Using real-life examples, President Museveni acknowledged that many farmers in the Lango subregion are embracing the PDM initiative. He expressed confidence that the program will generate more jobs than traditional government sectors such as education, police, and healthcare.
Regarding fishing challenges on the lakes, the President announced plans to return in May to address the concerns, suggesting that indigenous fishermen be entrusted with lake conservation.
On politics, Museveni cautioned against divisive identity politics and encouraged unity. The NRM Secretary-General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, praised Museveni for his dedication to Uganda’s development and reiterated the party’s request for him to contest in the 2026 elections.
Hon. Judith Alyek, Chairperson of the Lango Parliamentary Group, also expressed gratitude for the peace and development strides in the region, while highlighting the need for further infrastructural support, including the construction of Lira Airport and a regional driving license issuance center.
The event was attended by First Lady Janet Museveni, government officials, MPs, security chiefs, and religious leaders.
