Northern Ugandan singer, songwriter, and record producer Riky Bird recently took to his Facebook page to address an issue close to his heart.
In a heartfelt post, The Ami Ni” hitmaker highlighted the challenges faced by Luo artists in the music industry and called for greater unity and support within the northern region.
Ricky, a proud Acholi from Gulu City, expressed gratitude for the recognition and support he has received from his community. However, he also pointed out that artists from other northern tribes, such as Lango, Alur, Madi, and Lugbara, often do not receive the same level of recognition.
He cited the Northern Uganda Music Awards (NUMA) as an example, noting that many categories feature predominantly Acholi artists, leaving out deserving talents from other northern tribes. Bird emphasized the need for northern artists to build a culture of unity and support, stating that this would help the region grow and gain admiration from others.
Bird’s call for unity resonates with many in the music industry, who believe that collaboration and mutual support are key to overcoming the challenges faced by northern artists.
