George Abdul, the current Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Otuke district and the Whip for RDCs of Lango, remains determine on his intention to contest for the Member of Parliament seat for Erute South in the 2026 elections.
Abdul, a staunch supporter of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), aims to bridge developmental gaps in the constituency and enhance socio-economic transformation.
During an exclusive interview, Abdul emphasized his motivation for seeking the parliamentary seat, citing inadequate infrastructural development and social services in Erute South. He stressed that only a dedicated leader under the NRM banner could effectively address these shortcomings.
“When you look at the terrain of Erute South, the infrastructural development, the social well-being of our people in terms of education and health, it leaves much to be desired. The void can only be filled by someone who understands the policies and manifesto of the NRM, which aligns perfectly with the needs of my people,” Abdul stated.
Critique of the Incumbent Leadership
Abdul criticized the current MP, who is from the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), for not supporting government programs, particularly initiatives aimed at wealth creation. He pointed out that NRM programs such as Emyooga and the Parish Development Model (PDM) have had significant positive impacts on communities, yet they lack the full support of the incumbent legislature.
“Even when the president visited Erute South for the PDM assessment tour, he witnessed firsthand the success of the initiative in Amach. If these programs are fully embraced by leaders, our people can be pushed into the money economy,” he added.
A Champion for Youth Empowerment
Abdul highlighted his extensive background in youth leadership, spanning over a decade. He has worked with international, national, and local NGOs, focusing on skilling young people in Lango sub-region.
His efforts in talent identification and development have contributed to shaping the future of many youths.
“I have been on the ground, guiding young people, training them, and ensuring they acquire practical skills. My track record in skilling and economic empowerment speaks for itself,” he emphasized.
As the chairperson of the Board at the Lango Zonal Presidential Industrial Hub near Lira University, Abdul has played a pivotal role in equipping young people with skills that make them competitive in the job market.
Addressing the Political Landscape in Erute South
Abdul dismissed claims of a strong UPC wave in the region, asserting that the party has historically worked alongside the NRM. He believes that rather than engaging in political rivalry, leaders should collaborate for the development of their people.
“The only thing that remains to be addressed is the issue of capital compensation, which the government has already prioritized in the budget. Projects such as the construction of Akibua Stadium, the cultural heritage palace, and key road infrastructure like the Apac-Rwekunye-Kitgum road are evidence of our commitment to development,” he noted.
Strength of the NRM and Vision for the Future
Abdul reassured his constituents that despite minor personality clashes within the party, the NRM remains strong and cohesive. He believes that under NRM’s leadership, Uganda is on course to achieve middle-income status by 2040.
“The party has the capacity to handle any internal disputes. What matters is that we focus on policies and activities that resonate with our people’s aspirations. The vision is clear – we must work together for the socio-economic transformation of Erute South and Uganda as a whole,” he affirmed.
Abdul urged his constituents to rally behind his candidacy and work towards a common goal of prosperity.
“The time is right for us. Let’s reinforce the efforts already in place and drive policies that truly uplift our people. I am ready to serve,” he concluded.
