South Sudanese content creator Nelly Big Boy has recently addressed the growing criticism he has been facing over his content. In a strong statement, he urged the public to stop labeling him as a comedian and to recognize him for his work as a content creator instead.
This message comes after several fans expressed their dissatisfaction with Nelly’s content, with some even going as far as claiming he lacked talent and suggesting he might have a mental disorder. These remarks seem to have triggered Nelly to clarify his position publicly.
In a direct and passionate message, Nelly said, “You need to stop mentioning my name when people are talking about comedians because I am a content creator, not a comedian.” He went on to emphasize the difference between content creation and comedy, urging his audience to understand this distinction.
“SSD people, listen up! Y’all need to stop mentioning my name when people are talking about comedians. Let me make this clear: I’m a #content #creator, not a comedian. There’s a difference, and it’s time you understood that,” Nelly continued.
The content creator also took the opportunity to educate his followers, saying, “Before you tag me or bring me into conversations about comedy, take a moment to learn what content creation is and what comedy is. Once you figure that out, then you can mention me! I AM NOT A COMEDIAN! I create content, and that’s my lane. Respect it.”
Nelly Big Boy’s plea comes at a time when content creation is becoming increasingly popular in Africa and beyond, but it’s unfortunate that many still fail to differentiate between content creation and comedy. His message serves as a reminder for fans and the public to respect the diversity of content creators’ roles and acknowledge their specific craft.

Last year, Lira-based TikToker Kelvin Klein also made headlines after being nominated in the comedy category at the NUMA Awards. His nomination triggered various opinions, with some critics arguing that he should not be categorized as a comedian, but rather as a TikToker.
Kelvin, who is rapidly gaining recognition as a versatile content creator using platforms like TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, was quick to clarify his stance. “I never explicitly call myself a comedian, but the name ‘Funny Kelvin’ reflects comedy and entertainment. My work speaks for itself across multiple platforms,” he explained.
Kelvin’s comedy, which varies in style and presentation, aims to reach a broad audience. However, he also acknowledged the challenges of creating collaborative content due to limited resources in Northern Uganda.
His nomination for the 2024 Northern Uganda Music Awards has sparked further debate, with some questioning whether he, along with other nominees like Odongo the Odongo Stress Killer, should be considered comedians. Some critics feel that TikTokers, not traditional comedians, are receiving recognition for their online content.
In response to this, Kelvin shared, “Such comments hurt because they come from people who don’t support me but want to provoke me into reacting negatively. The organizers of the awards know what they’re doing.”
Kelvin urged his critics to focus on supporting talent rather than perpetuating negativity. “We’re all using platforms like TikTok and Facebook to grow. Let’s focus on the work we create, not labels,” he added.
Emphasizing unity within the entertainment industry, Kelvin maintains good relationships with fellow nominees and collaborators like Odongo Stress Killer and Young Emma. Together, they have been working on initiatives to uplift the region’s creative arts.
“Let’s avoid unnecessary battles. Our work should represent who we are, not our words,” Kelvin said. He believes that healthy competition, driven by voters and the quality of content, is the key to success.
