In an effort to enhance the community’s access to clean water, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, the Woman Member of Parliament for Lira City and Uganda’s Health Minister, on Monday commissioned a newly constructed well for residents of Te-Obwolo B cell, Akia Parish in Lira City East Division.
The well aims to improve the quality of life for local residents by providing reliable access to clean water.
During her address at the commissioning ceremony, Dr. Aceng underscored the importance of water access, highlighting it as a critical aspect of health, education, and overall community development.
“Water is life, and it is essential for health, education, and overall development. We must prioritize access to clean water over other social services to ensure a healthier and more productive community,” she emphasized.
Dr. Acheng also celebrated the residents for their collective efforts in both the construction and ongoing maintenance of the well, recognizing teamwork as key to sustainable development.
“Your commitment to working together is commendable, and it is this spirit of unity that will drive progress in our community,” she remarked.
Felix Opito, the local LC1 of Te-Obwolo B cell, expressed his gratitude to Dr. Acheng for her consistent support, which has been pivotal in addressing the water access challenges faced by the residents.
He noted that previously, many locals were forced to share water with cattle, often struggling to meet their daily needs. “Dr. Aceng has been an example of hope for us, and her efforts have saved us from the struggles we faced in our daily lives,” Opito said.
Dr. Aceng further pledged to support the construction of a borehole for Te-Obwolo A cell, extending the benefits of clean water access to even more families.
The commissioning of the well is part of a broader initiative to improve infrastructure and quality of life for residents in Lira City and surrounding areas, with a strong emphasis on sustainable development and community-driven projects.
