Popular Ugandan musician Mansur Semanda, widely known as King Saha, has officially endorsed counsel Elias Nalukoola for the Kawempe North parliamentary seat. A prominent figure in both Uganda’s music industry and the political landscape, King Saha has called on his party, the National Unity Platform (NUP), to grant its official ticket to Nalukoola ahead of the upcoming by-election scheduled for March 2025.
In a live TikTok video, King Saha expressed his confidence in Nalukoola’s leadership capabilities. “I believe Nalukoola deserves this party ticket. Let us give him the card because he is aggressive and a well-rounded leader who can provide responsible leadership,” he stated.
Growing List of Candidates
The race for the Kawempe North MP position has attracted a diverse pool of candidates from various political parties. Among those vying for the seat are:
Mukiibi Sadat (popularly known as Kalifah Aganaga) – Forum for Democratic Change (FDC)
Faridah Nambi – National Resistance Movement (NRM), daughter of NRM’s National Vice Chairman, Hajj Moses Kigongo
Hajjat Hanifah Karadi – Independent candidate with NRM leanings
Elias Nalukoola – National Unity Platform (NUP)
Musiitwa Ismail – People’s Progressive Party (PPP)
Muhamood Mutazindwa – Independent
Twahira Akabdina Ssegirinya – Independent, widow of the late MP Muhammad Ssegirinya
The Electoral Commission has outlined the roadmap for the by-election following the tragic passing of Muhammad Ssegirinya on January 9, 2025 with Nomination of candidates: February 26 – 27, 2025, Campaign period: February 28 – March 11, 2025 and Election day scheduled for March 13, 2025.
